Let the fraction be x/y.

As x+y =12

And x+1/y+1= = 3/4

Then 4(x+1)=3(y+1)

,4x+4=3y+3 -eqs1

As x+y=12

y=12-x

by putting this in eqs 1

we get 4x+4=3(12-x)+3

4x+4=36-3x+3

4x+3x=36+3-4

7x=35

therefore x=35/7 = 5

as y=12-x

=12-5

y=7

hence the fraction is 5/7.
