 \mathbf{ Let \:  the \:  present \:  age \:  o f  \: son \:  be \:   \: x \:  years \:  and  \: present \:  age  \: of  \: father \:  be \:  \:  ( 50 - x ) \:  years, }

 \mathbf{Afte r \:  5  \: years, } \\  \\  \mathbf{<br /><br />Age  \: of  \: son = ( x + 5 )  \: years } \\  \mathbf {<br />Age \:  of  \: father = \:  ( 50 - x + 5 )  \:  \: years = ( 55 - x ) \:  \:  years}

According to the question,

Age of father after 5 years = 3 × age of son after 5 years,

=> 55 - x = 3( x + 5 )

=> 55 - x = 3x + 15

=> 55 - 15 = 3x + x

=> 40 = 4x

 =  &gt;  \frac{40}{4}  = x \\  \\  \bold{x = 10}

Hence, Present age of son = x = 10 years

Present age of father = ( 50 - x ) = ( 50 - 10 ) = 40 years
