Solution

Let the present age of Sita be " x "

and present age of Gita be " y "

A/c , " Sum of present ages of Sita and Gita is 34 years "

⇒ x + y = 32 ___(1)

A/c , " 4 years ago Sita's age is thrice the Gita's age "

⇒ ( x - 4 ) = 3 ( y - 4 )

⇒ x - 4 = 3y - 12

⇒ x - 3y = - 8 ___(2)

On Solving (1) - (2) , we get ,

⇒ ( x + y ) - ( x - 3y ) = 32 - (-8)

⇒ x + y - x + 3y = 32 + 8

⇒ 4y = 40

⇒ y = 10

On sub. y value in (1) , we get ,

⇒ x + (10) = 32

⇒ x = 32 - 10

⇒ x = 22
