Let the age of Rahman be x years. ------------- (1)
Rehman's three years ago age will be x - 3. ----- (2)
Rehman's 5 years age will be x + 5. ---------- (3)
Given, the sum of reciprocals of (1),(2),(3) will be 1/3.
1/x-3 + 1/x+5 = 1/3
x+5+x-3/(x-3)(x+5) = 1/3
2x+2/(x-3)(x+5) = 1/3
6x+6 = x^2 + 2x - 15
x^2 + 2x -15 - 6x - 6 = 0
x^2 - 4x - 21 = 0
(x-7)(x-3) = 0
x = 7 or x = -3.
The value of x cannot be -ve.
So, the present age of Rehman is 7 years.

1/(x-3)+1/(x-5)=1/3
1/(x-3) +(1+2) /(x-3) =1/3
4/(x-3) =1/3
4×3=(x-3)
9=x-3
x=12
