y=10

• The sum of the age of madan and Mohan 16

→ x + y = 16 ----(i)

• Four years ago madan was three times as older Mohan.

→ Four year ago

→ Madan's age = x - 4

→ Mohan's age = y - 4

• 3(x - 4) = y - 4

→ 3x - 12 = y - 4

→ 3x - y = 12 - 4

Add both the equations

→ x + y + 3x - y = 16 + 8

→ 4x = 24
