According to question,
(a - 5) ( 50 - a - 5) = 175
=> ( a - 5)(45 - a) = 175
=> 45a + 5a - a^2 - 225 = 175
=> - a^2 + 50a - 400 = 0
=> a^2 - 50a - 400 = 0
=> a^2 - 40a - 10a - 400 = 0
=> a(a-40) - 10(a-40)= 0
=> (a-10)(a-40) = 0
a = 40, 10
Son's age = 10 years
Father's age = 40 years
Age of father = 50 - a
