and Son's age be y
• Sum of their ages are 56
x + y = 56 .... ( i )
• After Four years
Father's age :- x + 4
Son's age :- y + 4
• Now the age of father is 3 times that of son age.
x + 4 = 3 ( y + 4 )
x + 4 = 3y + 12
x - 3y = 12 - 4
x = 8 + 3y .. ... ( ii )
Putting value of x from ( ii ) in ( i )
x + y = 56
8 + 3y + y = 56
4y = 56 - 8
4y = 48
y = 12
So,
The age of son is 12 years.
and Son's age be y
