Let 3 consecutive even numbers be n-2, n and n+2

n-2+n+n+2=168

3n=168

n=168/3

n=56

Therefore,

n-2=56-2=54

n=56 and

n+2=56+2=58

Therefore, 54 is the smallest of three numbers.
