The numbers be x and y
According to first case,
x + y = 4000
=> y = 4000 - x -------------------------> (1)
Again,
According to second case,
15% of x = 25% of y
=> 15/100 × x = 25/100 × y
=> 15 x / 100 = 25 x / 100
=> 15 x = 25 y [ Multipying both sides by 100 ]
=> 15 x = 25 (4000 - x) [ From (1) ]
=> 15 x = 100000 - 25 x
=> 15 x + 25 x = 100000
=> 40 x = 100000
=> x = 100000 / 40
=> x = 2500
•°• (1) => y = 4000 - x
=> y = 4000 - 2500 [ °•° x = 2500 ]
=> y = 1500
•°• The two numbers are : x = 2500 , y = 1500
