So, we get two equations:

x-y=16

If x-y=16, then x =y+16

Replace value of x in other equation

Hence y +16+y=50

Hence 2y +16=50

Hence 2y=34

Hence y =34/2=17

Replace value of y in first equation

x+17=50

x=50–17=33

Hence x=33 and y=17
