According to question
a+b = 2490 -------------(1)

6.5 % of a = 8.5 % of b
=> 6.5a/100= 8.5b/100
=> 6.5a = 8.5b
=> 65a = 85b
=> 13a = 17b
a= 17b/13 -----------(2)

Substituting equation 2 in 1, we get
b + 17b/ 13 = 2490
=> 30b/13 = 2490
=> 30b= 2490 * 13
=> b = 83 * 13
=> b = 1079

a=1411

Required numbers are 1079 and 1411
