The sum of two number is 40 and difference between them is 14.Find the number???

let the numbers be x and y
ATQ x + y = 40 ......(i)
x - y = 14 ........(ii)
adding i and ii
2x = 54
x = 27
Now, x + y = 40
27 + y = 40
y = 13
