Let the greater number be x and the smaller number be y

therefore from first condition we get,

x+y=58..... (1)

from second condition,

x=2y+1

x-2y=1........... (2)

multiplying equation one by 2 we get

2x-2y=116......(3)

adding equations one and three we get,

x=39

by substituting the value of x in equation one we get, y=19

therefore the greater number is 39 and the smaller number is 19
