Let one of the numbers be 'x'.
Hence, the other number = 3x + 80
Now,
Sum of two numbers = 60
( x ) + ( 3x + 80 ) = 60
x + 3x + 80 = 60
4x + 80 = 60
4x = 60 - 80
4x = - 20
x = - 20 / 4
x = - 5
Therefore,
The smaller number = x = - 5
The greater number = 3x + 80 = - 15 + 80 = 65
Hence, the other number = 3x + 80
Now,
Sum of two numbers = 60
( x ) + ( 3x + 80 ) = 60
x + 3x + 80 = 60
4x + 80 = 60
4x = 60 - 80
4x = - 20
x = - 20 / 4
x = - 5
Therefore,
The smaller number = x = - 5
The greater number = 3x + 80 = - 15 + 80 = 65
