since, it's given that :-

and , other number = x + 9

then ,

sum of numbers = 99

=> x + x + 9 = 99

$\textbf{take the like terms to one side, such that :-}$

=> x + x = 99 - 9

=> 2x = 90

$\textbf{take 2 to other side, such that if it's multiplying then,}$
$\textbf{ taking other side it will divide!}$

=> x = $\frac{90}{2}$

divide the terms , that is : 90 ÷ 2 = 45

=> x = 45 .

thus , one number = x = 45

and, other number = x+9 = 45 + 9 = 54
