Answer:

Answer is 9 and 6

Step-by-step explanation:

"The sum of two numbers is 15"

x be the first number and y be the second number.....therfore the equation is

x + y = 15 ------------ equation 1

"their difference is 3"

x - y = 3 --------------equation 2

Add the 2 equations, and the y term drops out, allowing you to solve for x. Then use either equation t

x+y=15

x-y=3

2x=18

x=9

y=6

Solution :-

Let us assume that, the two numbers are x and y where x > y .

So,

→ Sum of given numbers = 15

then,

→ x + y = 15 ---------- Eqn.(1)

and,

→ Difference of given numbers = 3

→ x - y = 3 { since x > y } ----------- Eqn.(2)

adding Eqn.(1) and Eqn.(2) we get,

→ (x + y) + (x - y) = 15 + 3

→ x + x + y - y = 18

→ 2x = 18

dividing both sides by 2,

→ x = 9

putting value of x in Eqn.(1),

→ 9 + y = 15

→ y = 15 - 9

→ y = 6 .

Verification :-

→ Sum = 15

→ 9 + 6 = 15

and,

→ Difference = 3

→ 9 - 6 = 3

Therefore, the required numbers are 9 and 6 .
