let the first number be x

and the other number be y

then given that

x+y= 15

and 1/x+1/y =3/10

so

1/x+1/y=3/10

make demoniator same

so

y/xy+x/xy=3/10

y+x/xy=3/10

here we have x+y value

so

15/xy = 3/10

50=xy

y=50/x

sub. the value in the first eq.

so

50/x+ x =15

50/x +x2/x =15

50+x2/x =15

50 +x2 =15x

x2 -15x +50=0

x2-10x -5x+50 =0

x(x-10) -5(x-10) =0

(x-5)(x-10)

x =5 or x=10

if x =5

then y =10 (5 +y =15)

if x = 10

then y = 5
