GIVEN :-

  • The sum of two numbers is 35.
  • The difference of two numbers is 13.

TO FIND :-

  • The numbers.

SOLUTION :-

Let the numbers be x and y.

▪︎Sum of two numbers.

=> x + y = 35 -------------------- (1)

▪︎Difference of two numbers.

=> x - y = 13 ----------------------(2)

▪︎ Now add Equation (1) and (2)

=> ( x + y ) + ( x - y ) = 35 + 13

=> x + x + y - y = 35 + 13

=> 2x = 48

=> x = 48/2

=> x = 24

▪︎Now put the value of x in Equation (1)

=> x + y = 35

=> 24 + y = 35

=> y = 35 - 24

=> y = 11

▪︎Now put the value of x in Equation (2)

=> x - y = 13

=> 24 - y = 13

=> -y = 13 - 24

=> y = 11

Hence the two numbers are 24 and 11.
