Let the numbers be x and y

Sum = 50

ie, x+y = 50

=> x = 50-y.......(1)

Difference = 4

=> x-y = 4......(2)

Substituting (1) in (2),

50-y-y = 4

50-2y = 4

50-4 = 2y

2y = 46

y = 23

x = 50-y = 50-23 = 27

Therefore the numbers are 27 and 23
