The sum of two numbers is 5000. If 20 of one is equal to 30 of the other numbers find the numbers

Let the two no. be x & y.
A/c to qst,
x + y = 5000
=> x = 5000- y
(x/20) = (y/30)
=> (5000-y)/20 = (y/30)
=> 30( 5000-y) = 20y
=> -20y -30y = -5000
=> -50y = -5000
=> y = (5000/50) = 100
x = 5000- 100 = 4900
