their sum : X + y = 56............ equation (1)

Their difference: x - y = 8......... equation (2)

adding both the equation ,

x + y =56

X - y = 8

( both y will be cancelled cuz they have opposite signs ) , Now ,

2x = 64

X = 32

find y , here we had x + y = 56

32 + y = 56

y = 56 - 32 = 24

therefore the numbers are 32 and 24
