Your answers are x=54, y=20 and x+y=74.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the smaller number be x.

larger number= y

x+y=74 .....(1)

Now,

one number is 34 than the number.

so, x+34=y

x-y=34 ......(2)

By subtracting (1) and(2)

x+y-(x-y)=74-34

or, x+y-x+y=40

or, 2y=40

hence, y=20.

By putting the value of y in (1)

x+y=74

or, x+20=74

or, x=74-20

therefore, x=54.

x=54, y=20. Ans.

equation= x+y=74. (to represent the sum of the numbers)
