Answer:

ANSWER

Let the two numbers be x and y.

x+y=3 ----- (1)

x−y=1 ----- (2)

Adding equation (1) and (2), we get

x+y=3

x−y=1

_________

2x=4

x=

2

4

=2

Substituting the value x in equation (1), we get

2+y=3

y=3−2

y=1

Therefore, x=2 and y=1

Hence, the two numbers are 2 and 1.

Answer:

Let the two numbers be x and y ( Assuming that x>y)

Since, Sum of the two numbers is 8/3

So,

x + y = 8/3

=>3(x + y) = 8

=> 3x + 3 y = 8 --------------------(i)

And difference of the two numbers is 1/3

So,

x - y = 1/3

=> 3x - 3y = 1 -------------------------(ii)

________________________

Now, adding equation (i) and (ii) we get,

3x + 3y + 3x - 3y = 8 + 1

=>6x = 9

=>x = 9/6

=>x = 3/2

________________________

Now putting the value of x = 2/3 in equation (i) we get,

3*(3/2) + 3y = 8

=> 9/2 + 3y = 8

=> 3y = 8 - 9/2

=> 3y = 7/2

=> y = 7/6

Therefore, two numbers are 3/2 and 7/6
