Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

  • Sum of two numbers is 95.
  • One number exceeds the other by 3.

To Find :

  • The other number

Solution :

 \sf{Here  \: we  \: are \:  using \:  the \:  concept \:  of \:  linear \:  equations  \: in  \: one  \: variable.}

 \pink{ \bf{Let : }}

  • Let one number be y.
  • Other number = y + 3

✠ According to the question,

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \leadsto \: y + (y + 3) = 95}}

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \leadsto \: 2y  + 3 = 95}}

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \leadsto \: 2y = 95 - 3}}

  • Transporting 3 to R. H. S.

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \leadsto \: 2y = 92}}

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \leadsto \: y =   \cancel{\frac{92}{2} }}}

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \leadsto \: y = 46}}

So,

Value of y is 46.

________________________

 \tt{Number \:  = 46}

 \tt{Other \: number \:  = y + 3 = 46 +  3 =  \pink{49}}

  \underline{\therefore \tt{ \: 46 \: and \: 49 \: are \: the \: two \: required \: numbers.}}

Verification :

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \implies \: y + (y + 3) = 95}}

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \implies \: 46 + (46 + 3) = 95}}

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \implies \: 46 + 49 = 95}}

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \implies \:95 = 95 }}

 \displaystyle{ \sf{ \implies \:L.H.S.= R. H. S. }}

Hence, Verified!

Let 1st number is x

Since,

One exceeds the other by 3

Thus,

2nd number is x+3

According to question,

→ x + (x+3) = 95

→ 2x = 95 – 3

→ 2x = 92

→ x = 46

So,

x+3 = 46 +3 = 49

Hence,

The numbers are 46 and 49.
