Given : The sum of two numbers x,y = 12

            The difference of x and two times y = 6

To find : Value of x and y

Proof :

Given that that sum of two numbers,  x and y, is  12

=> x + y = 12   ......... (Equation 1)

We have,

the difference of x and two times y is 6.

=> x - 2y = 6  .........  (Equation 2)

Subtracting Equation (2) from (1)

(x + y) - (x - 2y) = 12 - 6

=> x + y - x +2y = 6

=> 3y = 6

=> y = 2

∴ y = 2

From Equation 1 , Substituting the value of y

x + y = 12

=> x + 2 = 12

=> x = 10

Hence, The value of x = 10 and y = 2
