The question is saying that if two numbers are added we get 1/2 and one number is -8/4

Solution :-

Let the one of the required number which has to be added as x

According to Question

→ x + (-8/14) = 1/2

→ x - 8/14 = 1/2

→ x = 1/2 + 8/14

Take LCM of 2 & 14

It's 14 only

Now adding...

→ x = 7/14 + 8/14

→ x = 15/14

So, the value of x is 15/14

Proof :-

The question says x + (-8/14) = 1/2

So, check it by putting the value of x

→ 15/14 -8/14 = 1/2

→ 7/14 = 1/2

→ 1/2 = 1/2

Hence, Proved

Answer

Given :-

Sum of two rational number = 1/2

One of the number = -8/14

To find :-

Second number

Solution :-

Let the second number be x

\sf x + (\frac{ - 8}{14}) = \frac{1}{2}

\sf x = \frac{ 8}{14}  +  \frac{1}{2}

\sf x =  \frac{8 + 7}{14}

\sf x =  \frac{15}{14}

Required number is 5/14.
