Step-by-step explanation:

Given -

  • p(x) = 5x² - 7x + 2

To Find -

  • Sum of zeroes

Method 1 :-

As we know that :-

  • α + β = -b/a

→ α + β = -(-7)/5

→ α + β = 7/5

Method 2 :-

→ 5x² - 7x + 2

→ 5x² - 5x - 2x + 2

→ 5x(x - 1) - 2(x - 1)

→ (5x - 2)(x - 1)

Zeroes are :-

→ 5x - 2 = 0 and x - 1 = 0

→ x = 2/5 and x = 1

Then,

→ α + β = 2/5 + 1

→ 2+5/5

→ 7/5

Hence,

The sum of zeroes is 7/5.
