Orpheus and Eurydice fall in love and get married. Shortly after their marriage, Eurydice is bitten by a poisonous snake and dies. She and her spirit goes to the underworld.
Orpheus couldn’t bear the loss and went behind her to the underworld. He pleaded with King Hades and Queen Proserpina and moved them to tears.
As a rising action, the King and Queen agreed to send Eurydice back with him provided he should not turn back and see his wife till he left the underworld.
Orpheus was so steadfast in his goal of taking Eurydice with him, that although he badly wanted to see his beautiful wife, he never once turned back.
But when she was about to come out of the cave of the underworld, Orpheus forgets the warning of Hades and turns back to look at her. She gets dragged back to the underworld and he loses her forever.
He laments the loss of his wife and he turns down the advances of Bacchus, a group of women.
They kill him and then, throw his body parts in a river. Even when he is dead, he still mutters the name of Eurydice.
