The taxi fair in a city is as follows : for the first kilometre the fare is rupees 8 and the subsequent distance it is 5 rupees km. Taking the distance covered as x km and the fare as y rupees , write a linear equation and draw its graph.​

Given,

Fare for the first km= Rs.8

Total distance covered= x km

⇒Fare for the subsequent distance= (x-1)5

Total fare = Rs. y

Now,

8+(x-1)5=y

⇒8+5x-5=y

⇒5x+3=y

If x=1,

5(1)+3=y ⇒ y = 8

If x=2,

5(2)+3=y⇒ y=13

The graph drawn by plotting the points (1,8) and (2,13) will be the required graph.
