The taxi fare in a city is $3 and then $0.40 per every kilometer travelled.
a) The taxi fare is $9. How much taxi travelled
b) Taxi fare cost 30% more at night. How much does a $9 daytime journey
cost at night.

(a)

let,

the taxi fare be = x=$3

and taxi fare  kilometer = y

A/Q,

     (x+y)= taxi fare for 1 kilometer

     (x+y)=$3+$0.40

hence,

          x+y=$9

         $3+y=$9

          y=$9-$3

          y=$6

then,

      taxi travel = $6/$3= 2 kilometers

(b)

$9 X 30/100

  = $2.7

   cost at night= $9+$2.7 = $11.7
