(x+y)= taxi fare for 1 kilometer
(x+y)=$3+$0.40
hence,
x+y=$9
$3+y=$9
y=$9-$3
y=$6

taxi travel = $6/$3= 2 kilometers

$9 X 30/100
= $2.7
cost at night= $9+$2.7 = $11.7
