The taxi fare in a town is Rs.10 for the first km and Rs.6 per km for the subsequent distance. Taking distance as 'x' km and the total fare as 'y' km, write a linear equation for this information, what will be the total fare for 15 km?

Step-by-step explanation:

Fare for 1st km = Rs.10

Total distance travelled = x km

Fare for subsequent distance = Rs. 6/km

Total fare = Rs. y

So,

Total fare = Fare for 1st km + (Total distance - 1 km) * Fare for subsequent distance.

Therefore y = 10 + (x - 1)6

So, total fare for 15 km is

y = 10 + (15 - 1)6

y = 10 + 84

y = Rs. 94
