Let distance be x km and the total fare be y rs
   y=50+16x

   y=50+16(20)

   y=50+320

   y=370rs

Concept

An equation is said to be linear if the maximum power of the variable is consistently 1. Another name for it is a one-degree equation. A linear equation with one variable has the conventional form Ax + B = 0. In this case, the variables x and A are variables, while B is a constant.

Given

fixed fare of taxi = ₹50

fixed amount charged per km = ₹16

Find

we need to calculate the total fare for 20 km.

Solution

let x represent the distance traveled.

and y represent the total fare.

we get the required linear equation as,

total fare = fixed taxi fare × charge per km × distance

y = 50 ₊ 16x

y = 50 ₊ 16(20)

y = 50 ₊ 320

y = 370

hence we get the total fare for travelling 20 km as ₹370
