for subsequent distance = Rs 5
Distance = x km
Total fare = Rs y

According to question,

8 × 1 + 5(x - 1) = y
=> 8 + 5x - 5 = y
=> 3 + 5x = y

⇒ For first subsequent distance (x - 1) km fare = 5(x - 1)

⇒ y = 8 + 5 (x - 1)
