The teacher said that iron was a metal.

Direct and Indirect speech

  • In Direct speech, we simply repeat what someone said in exactly the same manner. Quotation marks are used to enclose the words.
  • For example: Rahul said to me, "I am not going to Delhi."
  • In Indirect speech, we repeat what someone said in different words. Words can be our own but the context should be the same.
  • For example: Rahul told me that he was not going to Delhi.
