The teacher tells the class that the highest mark obtained by a student in her class is 8 marks more than thrice the lower marks. The highest score is 98. What is the lowest score?

Let the lowest marks be x

Highest marks = thrice more than lowest marks

EQUATION = 3x + 8 = 98

= 3x = 98 - 8

= 3x = 90
