Let the lowest score be "x" marks.

Then :-

• Twice the lowest marks = "2x".

Increasing the expression by 7 :-

• We get "2x + 7".

It is given that :-

• The highest marks obtained by a student in the class is twice the lowest marks plus 7.

And :-

• The highest score is 87 marks.

Therefore,

$\longmapsto\rm2x + 7 = 87$

$\longmapsto\rm2x = 87 - 7$

$\rm\longmapsto 2x = 80$

$\rm \longmapsto x = \dfrac{80}{2}$

$\longmapsto \underline{ \boxed{ \rm x = 40}}$
