The Tenth Boy
There were ten
friends in a village.
It was a hot
summer morning.
So they decided
to go for a swim in
the river.
The water was nice and cool. There was no one else around. Rajan, the
leader of the group, said, 'We should be careful. Let's hold hands when
we get into the water. And let's stay close to the bank.
The ten boys got into the river holding hands, But soon they let go of their
hands. They splashed around and played happily in the water for a while.
When they climbed onto the bank, Rajan said, 'We did not hold hands all
the time. We were not careful. Let's find out if all ten of us are safe.'
Rajan made his friends stand in a line. He then began to count, 'One,
two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine... Where is the tenth boy?'
A farmer was watching them. He asked Rajan to join the line, and he
counted, 'One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten! There
you are-all of you are safe!
Rajan said to the farmer, 'Thank you, sir. You helped us find the
missing friend
