Chakla was a district level administrative division in the sub-continent of India  during the Mughal era. The chakla system was in practice at least at Awadh and Bengal provinces.

EXPLANATION :

  • Chakla was the key administrative division in a province, subah (a province in the Mughal Empire) It was further subdivided into Parganas (former administrative unit of the sub-continent of India) used primarily, but not exclusively, by the Muslim kingdoms; each Pargana was comprising many villages.
  • Akbar inherited from Sher Shah an excellent local government system. The provinces were divided into sarkars, which were divided into paragans (tehsil), for the purpose of administration. Another administrative unit named Chakla was formed during Shah Jahan's reign. It was a community of several Parganas.
