It is so Because lighting conductor is a metal conductor so when lighting struck on it, it goes through the rod of the conductor to the ground hence it doesn't affect the building or damaged it from lighting thus it are taller than building in order to attract the falling lighting...

because when.light strikes the lightning conductor behave likes grounding so light passes through ground so tht
