torque of dipole moment due to electric field is √3 × 10^-8 Nm

It has given that a dipole of dipole moment, P = 10^-8 Cm placed inside a uniform electric field, E = 2 N/C.

we have to find the torque of dipole moment due to electric field.

we know, dipole moment is a vector quantity and is directed along the line from negative charge towards positive charge.

then, angle between dipole moment and electric field is 60° as shown in figure.

now using formula, torque = E × P

= |E||P|sinθ , where θ is angle between dipole moment and electric field.

= 10^-8 Cm × 2 N/C sin60°

= √3 × 10^-8 Nm

therefore torque of dipole moment due to electric field is √3 × 10^-8 Nm
