let the price of table is X
now,
=X+X×60%=2800
=X+60X/100=28
 \frac{100x + 60x}{100} = 2800
=160X=2800×100
X=2800×100/160
=1750
Price of chair=1750×60%
=1750×60/100
=1050

Cost price of chair is Rs.1050/-

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose that,

The cost price of table is Rs.100/-

And the cost price of the chair is less than 40 % of the table price ,

Then, cost price of chairs is Rs.60/-

According to the questions,

100 + 60 = 2800

160 = 2800

Or,

1 = \frac{2800}{160}

1 = 17.5

Thus, cost price of chair = 60\times 17.5

= 1050

Cost price of table = 17.5\times 100

= Rs.1750

Cost price of chair is Rs.1050/-
