The total distance between two towns is 80kilometre of person who was part of his journey by at the rate of 15 kilometre per hour and another part of his journey by bus at 20 km per hour if the time required for the journey is 4.5 hours find the distance covered by each mode of transport​

80 = 15*t₁ + 20*t₂

16 = 3t₁ + 4t₂

and total time is t₁ + t₂ = 4.5

by substituting this in 3t₁ + 4t₂ = 16

3(4.5-t₂) + 4t₂ = 16

13.5 -3t₂ + 4t₂ = 16

t₂ = 2.5hrs

t₁ = 4.5-2.5 = 2hrs

Distance covered with 15kmph = 15 * t₁ = 15*2 = 30 km

Distance covered with 20kmph = 20 * t₂ = 20*2.5 = 50 km
