Let salary of man = x
salary of woman = y
By first condition,
4x + 2y = 46,000 ....eqn.1
By second condition,
y = x + 500 ....eqn.2
Putting the value of y from equation 2 in equation 1, we get
4x + 2y = 46,000
4x + 2( x + 500 ) = 46,000
4x + 2x + 1000 = 46,000
6x = 46,000 - 1000
6x = 45,000
x = 45,000 / 6
x = 7500
Salary of woman = y = x + 500
= 7500 + 500
= 8000
