The total number of blue marbles is 6 times that of red marbles. If the total marbles are 280, find the total number of blue and red marbles
Answers
Answer:
let blue marble be 6x
then total number of red marbles is x
A . T . Q
6x+x=280
=> 7x=280
=> x=280/7=40
total numbers of red marbles = x
total numbers of blue marbles = 6x =6 × 40 = 240

Let R = the number of red marbles.
Then I can take the information in the problem and express B, the number of blue marbles, as: B = 3R - 6.
Adding them, we have:
R + B = 62
R + 3R - 6 = 62
4R - 6 = 62
Add 6 to each side of the equation:
4R - 6 +6 = 62 + 6
4R = 68
Divide each side of the equation by 4:
R = 17 … the number of red marbles.
So B = 62 - 17 = 45
Now I’ll leave it to you to check whether R=17 and B=45 meet the condition stated in the problem.
