Answer:

Since we dont know the number of girls in a class, let us keep the number of girls in a class as = x

As the question states the number of boys is 64 then that of girls , which in an equation can be written as = x + 64

Total number of students in a class = 340

We can find the number of girls and boys in this class with the help of the following equation .

= x + x + 64 = 340

= 2x + 64 = 340

2x = 340 - 64 ( transposing +64 from LHS to RHS changes +64 to -64 )

= 2x = 276

= x = 276 ÷ 2 ( transposing ×2 from LHS to RHS makes ×2 to ÷2 )

x = 138

So if x = 138 which is the number of girls in a class ,

then number of boys =

=x + 64

= 138 + 64

= 202

No of boys in a class = 202 .

Therefore , the number of girls in a class = 138 and the number of boys in a class = 202 .

Hope you find my answer useful!!!

Given

  • Total Students in class = 340

To Find

  • Number of boys and girls in class

Solution

Total students = 340

Let the no. of girls be x

Then, no. of boys will be x + 64

According to question,

➨ x + x + 64 = 340

➨ 2x + 64 = 340

➨ 2x = 340 - 64

➨ 2x = 276

➨ x = 276/ 2

➨ x = 138

Number of Girls in class

= x = 138

Number of Boys in class

= x + 64 = 138 + 64 = 202

Therefore, Number of Girls and boys in class is 138 and 202 respectively.
