Once I was travelling to Chennai by train. It was a long tiring journey. The train had to be my lodge on wheels. So I settled myself in my cabin comfortably. The train belonged to Rajdhani class and travelled quite fast. I made friends with the co-passengers who were sharing the cabin with me. Most of the time, I was engrossed in the new novel I had started reading recently and was carrying along.
Watchfulness, alertness, and caution have been my first principles and watchwords that determine my response to an emergency. Owing to the benefits I have reaped from them, I love to be cautious all the time. My cautious attitude has saved me many a loss and untoward consequence.
Often I would look out and see the ever changing vistas outside the train window. The rumble of the wheels would often echo in the ears. Thus ever moving, shaking amidst jolts the train was heading towards the destination.
The night fell; the lights came to life and outside darkness studded with star-like lights of fleeting buildings kept reminding me I was a traveler. I slept on my ever shaking and vibrating berth. In the middle of night I woke up to go to the restroom. As I got off the bunk I saw a group of youngsters embarking on the train from a platform where it had halted for a while. I had not seen these boys before in the coach. I felt suspicion rising in my heart. Given the latest rise in anti-social and terrorist activities across the country, I felt extremely suspicious about these boys. I began weighing my options. I decided to wait until the train halted at the next station.
After fifteen minutes the train stopped at Bhopal. The first thing I did was inform the security about the suspicious characters who had suddenly disappeared into thin air. The security checked the coach. To everyone’s shock and dismay, the security found a bag that belonged to none of the passengers in the coach. Later on it was found it had a bomb in it. The security thanked me for my circumspection and prompt action. My caution had saved many lives once again!
