The trainer asked why everybody was late that day.

Extra Information :

There are some rules that we should keep in mind when converting questions in direct speech into indirect speech.

  • The verb 'said' is replaced by words such as asked, inquired or demanded.

  • We do not use a conjunction to introduce the reported speech if the question begins with an interrogative word like, who, whose, whom, which, where, why, when or how.

  • At the end of the sentence, we have to use full stop (.) because we can not use a question mark (?) in the indirect speech.
