The Turks brought a very distinct style of architecture to India. It had four cardinal characteristics - domes, minarets, arches and propped roofs. As far as decoration was concerned, the Turks favoured the use of geometrical and floral patterns, combined with panels of inscriptions containing verses from the Quran. This architectural style not only revealed the cultural trend of the period, but also shone light on the living conditions, faiths, beliefs and the socio-cultural outlook of the Turkish rulers.
