"The two boys proved themselves very useful to the narrator as they helped him with a lot of small errands. Besides selling fruits, the boys could do various types of petty jobs to earn money to save their ailing sister.
They were the ones who helped the narrator when he wanted to know about any place to dine, to get tickets for the opera, to buy some American cigarettes, to take him around the tourist spots, and a lot more.
This obliging nature and their overall polite character impressed the narrator. He also knew that behind all the eagerness they had to work, there was some huge pain behind which is making them work so much."
