Let the side of length 15 cm be perpendicular

and the side of length 17 cm be hypotenuse

then by Pythagoras theoram

we have

(hypotenuse) ^2= (base) ^2+(perpendicular) ^2

so

here.

(base)^2= (hypotenuse) ^2-(perpendicular) ^2

= (17)^2-(15)^2

Using the identity

a^2-.b^2= (a+b)(a-b)

= (17+15)(17-15)

= 32*2

= 64

=> base = 64

= 8cm

side square= hypotanuse square -side square

so, b cm square =17 square-15square

so b cm square= 289-225

so b cm square = 64 so b cm= square root of 64

so, b cm =8cm

therefore third side = 8 cm
